The Puente Nuevo bridge (meaning "new bridge") above the Guadalevín river was built in the 18th century. It had taken 34 years to build it before opening in 1753. At the top there is a chamber that was used as a prison and during the civil war in the late 1930s it was used to torture people including throwing them out of the window eventually. The bridge is 98m height and it stretches more than 100m above the El Tajo canyon.
